Ambassador of Austria Ms Andrea Wicke and her spouse, Mr. Venzislav Wicke-Dermendjiev hosted a musical concert for fellow diplomats, members of civil society and development sector to partially “immerse” their souls in the melodies of the east and the west and partially to acknowledge women’s contributions in the Pakistani society, economy, education, science and technology and other fields.
Held on the eve of the International Women’s Day, the event was indeed worth-remembering and Ambassador Andrea Wicke introduced the audience ‘six girls made ambassadors for one day under the ‘Ambassador of the Day’ initiative. Under the initiative Seher Raza was chosen for the coveted office of the EU ambassador, Umama was the British High Commissioner, Fatima the German envoy, Mahnoor Sohail was the head of Austrian mission, Ayesha Taimoor was the ambassador of Bulgaria and Eman was the Canadian high commissioner for one day.
Andrea Wicke reiterated her confidence these young girls would achieve their goals and there is no doubt one day they would become real ambassadors of Pakistan perhaps to the same countries that they are representing.
EU ambassador Dr Riina Kionka and India’s Charge d’affaires Geetika Srivastava, Bulgaria’s ambassador Irena Gancheva, the host herself—all women were there to assert women’s role which is equally important. Of course there were a large number of male guests too, to enjoy the fusion of the eastern and the western music.
In her welcome address, the Austrian ambassador expressed her delight that the concert was all about fusion of Jazz tunes with the melodies of the timeless Suf music.
