Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, Hafiz Naeem Al-Rahman, expressed deep sorrow and condemnation over the recent surge in violent crimes, including armed robberies, lootings, and shootings, resulting in the loss of lives of four individuals, including youth and civilians, in the span of just two days. He strongly criticized the incompetence and inefficiency of the government, police department, and relevant authorities, asserting that regardless of whether it is the People’s Party government or a caretaker setup, the public continues to suffer at the hands of criminals.
The largest city, commercial hub, and economic lifeline of the country, Karachi, is witnessing unprecedented insecurity, with armed dacoits enjoying impunity while the police force remains ineffective. The ongoing spree of robberies and violent incidents has resulted in significant loss of valuable human lives, and the government, regardless of its identity, has failed to safeguard the lives and property of its citizens.
According to CPLC statistics, there has been a drastic increase in crimes over the past two months, with 31 individuals losing their lives to violent incidents, and over 150 sustaining injuries. During this period, more than 15,000 incidents of various crimes, including robberies, thefts, dacoities, murders, kidnappings, extortions, and mobile phone snatchings, have been reported across the city.
Additionally, 4,300 cases of motorcycle thefts and 8,250 cases of motorcycle deprivation through armed assaults have been recorded. Hafiz Naeem Al-Rahman emphasized that under both the previous People’s Party government and the current caretaker administration, the situation remains dire, with mere lip service offered instead of concrete action to curb crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The crux of the matter lies in the rampant politicization of the police force and the failure to recruit local individuals into the Karachi police department deliberately. Hafiz Naeem Al-Rahman called for sweeping reforms in the police force, impartial actions against criminal elements, and the recruitment of local residents in the Karachi police to address the escalating law and order situation effectively.
