Sindh Assembly unanimously passed a resolution on Thursday, praising the recent opinion of the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding a presidential reference concerning the case of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Presented by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the resolution garnered support from various political parties including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
The resolution acknowledged the historic stance of the Supreme Court, asserting that justice was not served in the case of the late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the first elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, who was sentenced to death during the rule of a military dictator 45 years ago. Furthermore, the resolution called for the overturning of the verdict in Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s case and urged the Sindh government to petition the federal government to declare him a National Democratic Hero.
It also demanded official recognition of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto as a martyr, along with the awarding of the Nishan-e-Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to political workers and activists who have sacrificed for democracy. Following the passage of the resolution, the specially convened session of the Sindh Assembly was adjourned.
