Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather update; scattered rain, snowfall likely

PESHAWAR – Parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received scattered rains during the last 24 hours with experts predicting the wet spell to continue intermittently on Thursday night.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a shallow westerly wave is affecting upper parts of Pakistan and likely to persist during next 24 hours.

Under these conditions, cold and partly cloudy weather is expected in most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday. Freezing weather is expected in upper districts.

However, light rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the mountains are expected in Dir, Chitral, Kohistan, Shangla, Swat, Buner, Abbottabad, Mansehra and Kurrum on Thursday night.

Peshawar’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 05-07 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in most parts of the province during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in upper districts. Rain-thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills occurred in parts of the province.

Rainfall (mm): Dir, Kalam 06, Malamjabba 05, Balakot 02, Pattan, Mirkhani 01

Snowfall (Inches): Kalam 03, Malamjabba 01 and Hunza 0.5

Kalam remained the coldest place in the province where temperature dropped 07 C below freezing.

In Peshawar, minimum temperature was recorded at 07 C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 81 per cent.
