Justice (Retd) Arshad Noor Khan, judicial member of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, along with his team, visited the 200-bed Sindh Government Hospital in New Karachi. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the basic medical facilities provided to the local community and address various complaints. ]
The medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Hussain Ahmed Jethyal, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Yasser, and other senior staff warmly welcomed the Sindh Human Rights Commission team and provided detailed briefings on various hospital matters. During inspections of different sections, the efficient performance of the experienced medical team and adequate medical facilities were commended.
However, concerns were raised regarding the shortage of staff despite the presence of space and machinery, the lack of clean drinking water for patients, and illegal encroachments around the hospital hindering public access. The Sindh Human Rights Commission requested discussions with relevant authorities to resolve issues related to the shortage of staff to reactivate inactive wards, ensure the provision of clean drinking water for patients, and address accessibility challenges to the hospital due to illegal encroachments in the vicinity. Additionally, the medical superintendent recommended affiliating the hospital with a compassionate university to fulfill the shortage of paramedical staff.
Directives were issued by the Sindh Human Rights Commission Judiciary Member to ensure immediate measures for water supply and the provision of essential medical facilities without any interruption.
