Facebook, Instagram partially restored after massive outage

Social media sites including Facebook, Instagram and Messenger have been partially restored in Pakistan and parts of the world after millions of users reported that they could not access apps globally.

The outage was reported around 8:15 pm on Tuesday as homepage of Facebook and other apps of Meta shows users logged out of their devices and it is not allowing people to log-in again.

Realtime data shared by Downdetector shows internet and social media outrage in Pakistan, UK, US, EU and in other regions.

Over half  users reported outages for Facebook on Downdetector, while there were thousands of reports for Instagram.

Amid the outage, people took to Twitter and other sites, reporting about outage. Some were confused while other said they thought to be hacked.

Social users said they are visiting Twitter/X and other platforms to see if Instagram is down. Some said they forgot their account password at first.

When will Facebook restore?

Facebook and its Messenger services partially started functioning again after a couple of hours.

Meta acknowledged that its users around the world again are facing issues in log-in due to glitch.

As millions around the globe were not able to access Facebook, and sister apps, website trouble tracker DownDetector confirms getting tens of thousands of problems accessing or using Facebook and its photo-centric Instagram network, as well as Messenger.

There were more than half million reports of trouble with Facebook and other apps, and most of complaints were about logging in to social site. Some people mentioned having trouble with Threads and other apps.

As all eyes are on Meta and its technical team, the company spokesperson Andy Stone said they know people are having trouble accessing services. They mentioned working to fix now.

Social Media Outages

Facebook outage reminds everyone how dependent people are on Mark Zuckerberg-owned company that is down. This is not the first time when these sites are not accessible.

The longest outage occurred in 2021 and lasted for around seven hours before some apps slowly came back to life.
