Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf founder Imran Khan on Tuesday picked Amir Dogar as the party’s candidate for the National Assembly speaker.
PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub confirmed the name of party candidate for the contest of National Assembly speaker ahead of the NA session slated for February 29.
Dogar, who contested the election from NA-149, is the party’s pick for speaker of the Lower House of the Parliament while Junaid Khan is party’s pick for the deputy speaker of NA.
Omar said both Dogar and Junaid had made several sacrifices for Tehreek-e-Insaf. He also hoped to form governments, saying PTI would emerge victorious in the general elections.
PTI leader however lamented that Imran Khan’s party was deprived of its 180 NA seats through rigging.
Omar Ayub also announced protests against alleged election rigging from March 2. He said the party was deprived of its electoral symbol, forcing members to contest elections as independents. He said independent members later joined the Sunni Ittehad Council to secure reserved seats in the National Assembly as well as the assemblies of Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
