MULTAN – Multan Sultans beat Quetta Gladiators by 13 runs in the 11th Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 match at the picturesque Multan Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing a challenging 181-run target for victory, the Gladiators kept losing wickets at critical stages and ended up at 167/9 in the allotted 20 overs. Khawaja Nafay was the top scorer with 36 runs followed by Rilee Rossouw who made 30. Saud Shakeel made 24 runs and Sherfane Rutherford 21 while Jason Roy, Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Amir scored 12 runs each. Mohammad Ali and David Willey bagged three wickets each and Aftab Ibrahim got two while Usama Mir took one wicket. Mohammad Ali was named player of the match.
After being asked to bat first by Gladiators skipper Rilee Rossouw, Sultans batters kept up the scoring rate despite losing Usman Khan early. Sultans finished the innings strongly by adding 68 runs during the last five overs and ended up at 180/4. Reeza Hendricks was the top scorer with 72 runs followed by skipper Mohammad Rizwan who made 51. Tayyab Tahir made 35 while Usman Khan scored 14 runs. Mohammad Amir bagged two wickets during the final over while Akeal Hosein and Abrar Ahmed took one wicket each.
