Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather update; rains, hailstorm, snowfall predicted

PESHAWAR – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain-wind/thunderstorms and isolated hailstorm with snowfall over the mountains for parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Saturday evening/night to Tuesday.
As per the synoptic situation, a shallow westerly wave prevails over northern parts of Pakistan. A fresh westerly wave will likely enter Balochistan on Sunday night. It will likely grip the upper parts of the country on Monday.
Under these conditions, partly cloudy and freezing weather is likely in upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Saturday evening/night to Tuesday.
On Saturday evening/night, light rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over hills are expected in Chitral, Dir, Balakot, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kurram and surroundings.
From Sunday to Tuesday, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Peshawar, Mohmand, Bajaur, Khyber, Kurram, Kohat, Bannu and Waziristan with occasional gaps. Isolated hailstorms may also occur during this period.
Snowfall may disrupt traffic in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla and Hunza on Monday evening/night and Tuesday. The possibility of landslides in upper districts cannot be ruled out during the forecast period.
In Peshawar, minimum temperature will likely remain between 04-06 degrees Celsius on Sunday and 05-07 C on Monday.
Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in Peshawar and most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in upper districts.
Kalam remained the coldest place in the province where temperature dropped 12 C below freezing.
In Peshawar, minimum temperature was recorded at 04 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 85 per cent.
