PESHAWAR – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain-wind/thunderstorms, isolated hailstorm with snowfall over the mountains for Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Sunday night to Tuesday (February 25-27).
As per the synoptic situation, a westerly wave will likely enter Balochistan on Sunday night (February 25). It will likely grip the upper parts of the country on Monday (February 26).
Under the influence of this weather system, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Peshawar, Mohmand, Bajaur, Khyber, Kurram, Kohat, Bannu and Waziristan from February 25 night to February 27 with occasional gaps. Isolated hailstorms may also occur during this period.
Possible Impacts and advises: Snowfall may disrupt traffic in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla and Hunza on February 26 evening/night & February 27. The possibility of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cannot be ruled out during the forecast period. Wind thunderstorms may damage loose structures like electric poles, solar panels, etc. Farmers and tourists are advised to remain extra cautious during the spell.
In Peshawar, minimum temperature will likely remain between 05-07 degrees Celsius on Saturday and 06-08 C on Sunday.
Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in Peshawar and most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in upper districts. However, Malam Jabba received 03 mm rain and 01 inch snowfall.
In Peshawar, minimum temperature was recorded at 06 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 78 per cent.
