Activists affiliated with a Hindutva group stormed the venue of a Bengali folk artist in BJP-ruled Rajasthan state, causing chaos and fear among the attendees.

The serene atmosphere of Bengal’s folk artist Deen Krishna Thakur’s event was shattered when the Hindutva group stormed the venue in the heart of Jaipur city.

Eyewitnesses recount the harrowing moments when the peaceful gathering turned into a scene of confrontation.

“They barged in, shouting slogans and vandalising the stage. It was terrifying,” said one attendee. He said that the assailants, affiliated with a local Hindutva outfit, targeted the programme.

Deen Krishna, known for his inclusive approach to spirituality, expressed dismay over the incident. “Our event was a celebration of divine love and unity. It’s disheartening to see such intolerance and aggression,” he lamented. “We will not be silenced by hate. Our message of unity will prevail,” he affirmed.

The attack on the event underscores the growing tensions fueled by religious polarisation in India. Analysts point to the rise of Hindutva RSS/BJP/ VHP/Banjrang Dal like extremist ideologies and the politicisation of religion as contributing factors to such incidents.

“This attack is not an isolated event but a manifestation of deeper societal divisions,” remarked a political commentator.

“We must stand united against forces that seek to divide us based on religion. Our diversity is our strength,” remarked a resident, echoing sentiments of resilience and solidarity.—INP
