Sindh police to deploy FRT for improved security at KATI

Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, Raja Riffat Mukhtar, announced that the Sindh Police will implement “Facial Recognition Technology” (FRT) to combat criminal elements within industries. He made these remarks during a visit to the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) event.

The event was attended by KATI President Johar Qandhari, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, Senior Vice President Nighat Awan, Vice President Muslim Mohammadi, Acting Chairman of the Standing Committee Sheikh Umar Rehan, former Presidents Masood Naqi, Saleem-uz-Zaman, Ehtshamuddin, Farooq Mazhar, Tariq Malik, Farooq Qandhari, Additional IG Sindh Khadim Hussain Rind, DIG East Captain Ghulam Azfar Mahesar, DIG Traffic Iqbal Dara, SSP Korangi Sardar Hassan Khan Niazi, SSP Traffic Korangi Farah Amberen, Assistant IG Administration Syed Ali Asif, and others.

IG Sindh stated that Karachi Police would provide an additional 200 police officers to Chief of Karachi Police to strengthen security measures. He emphasized the need to utilize technology for security initiatives, highlighting the establishment of a digital data center by the KATI members to facilitate data exchange with the police. He mentioned that Sindh Police possesses data of over 25,000 suspects, enabling swift identification of suspicious activities.

IG Riffat Mukhtar expressed the desire to model Korangi’s industrial area and emphasized collaboration between Sindh Police and KATI to achieve this goal. Community policing was hailed as a positive initiative, with efforts to strengthen it further being essential. Addressing manpower shortages, Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, Raja Riffat Mukhtarr announced the recruitment of 50,000 security guards under private arrangements, doubling the existing police force. In terms of response times, significant improvements have been made, with the current average response time reduced to seven minutes from fifteen.

Plans to further decrease this to five minutes are underway. Additionally, efforts are being made to obtain modern software for instant location determination, resulting in time-saving benefits.
