SIALKOT – Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) candidate Firdous Ashiq Awan tendered unconditional apology for slapping a policeman at a polling station during Feb 8 general election.

The IPP leader appeared before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the case. She said the police officials were reluctant to provide protection to her when she was being harassed.

She alleged that votes were being illegally cast at the polling station and no action was taken against those involved in this act.

During the hearing, ECP Sindh Member said it was not expected that she would slap a police official.

At which, Awan said she apologised over what happened on that day. Later, the ECP reserved the verdict after concluding the hearing.

Firdous Ashiq Awan found herself in legal trouble after a video surfaced on social media, allegedly showing her assaulting a policeman at a polling station in Sialkot. The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, during the elections.

The Sialkot Sadar police have taken action, registering a case against Firdous Ashiq Awan based on a complaint filed by ASI Amjad. The FIR states that Awan allegedly misbehaved with and slapped a policeman who was on duty at Government High School Gana Kalan in Sialkot NA 70.

The video clip of the incident has gone viral on social media platforms, sparking widespread outrage and debate. Awan’s actions have drawn condemnation from various quarters, with many demanding accountability and strict action against her.
