Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister, Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar, underscored the significance of Taekwondo as a traditional Korean martial art that not only imparts physical fighting skills but also fosters mental discipline.
He made these remarks at the Bazel Siddiqui Taekwondo event organized by Universal Tigers Taekwondo in collaboration with Sindh Scouts Association at Mohammad Siddique Scouts Sports, Abul Hassan Isphahani Road on Tuesday.
The event was attended by Secretary DEPD Tuha Farooqui, Faim Siddiqui, and parents of participating children. During his speech, Justice Baqar highlighted Taekwondo’s global recognition as an official Olympic sport and its role in promoting overall well-being by training the spirit. He emphasized that Taekwondo teaches synchronization of mind and body movements, fostering inner peace and extending harmony to life and society.
The championship witnessed the participation of differently-abled children who excelled in various competitions. Justice Baqar reflected on the tragic loss of 6-year-old Bazel Siddiqui, son of renowned journalist Fahim Siddiqui, who embraced martyrdom during a bomb blast in a Moharram procession in 2009.
Bazel Siddiqui Shaheed, being a Taekwondo player, inspired his father to organize the Taekwondo championship in his memory.
Further, Justice Baqar, recalling his own experience as a victim of terrorism in 2013, reiterated the nation’s unity against terrorism. After the event, the Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar distributed trophies and medals among the winning children, reaffirming the government’s support for promoting sports and holistic development among youth.
