PESHAWAR – Two revered political leaders Jahangir Tareen and JI chief Siraj-ul-Haq announced distancing from politics and stepping down from party premiership respectively, and it fuels rumours about Pervez Khattak’s exit from mainstream politics.

As rumours rife about PTI-Parliamentarians (PTI-P) Chairman Pervez Khattak peddled, the former defence minister denied rumours of quitting politics, calling them baseless.

Khattak, 74, said he is not leaving politics or his party PTI-P, an offshoot of Imran Khan’s PTI, and reiterated to continue the political struggle for the betterment of nation.

PTI-P suffered a massive blow in the 2024 general election in KP. His party however failed to win a single seat in National Assembly while it got two provincial assembly seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Key parties, including JUI-F and Awami National Party, also failed to win seats while independents got huge victory.

In a shocking announcement, IPP chief Jahangir Tareen announced his decision to quit politics altogether while Sirajul Haq resigned as the emir of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) following their parties’ dismal performances in the general elections.

Tareen faced blows after losing seats in Multan against PTI-backed Malik Aamir Dogar.
