RAWALPINDI – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday granted bail to Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in May 9 violence case.
The ATC judge has approved the bail against surety bonds Rs200,000. Following the bail, the former interior minister was released from Adiala Jail.
During the hearing, the court ordered the authorities to release the AML chief if he was not wanted in any other case. Sheikh Rashid’s lawyer attended the hearing while no one appeared from prosecution side.
The judge expressed resentment over absence of the prosecutor during the hearing.
Talking to media, Sheikh Rashid, who suffered defeat in NA-56 elections, said he did not run any election campaign due to his detention. “I don’t know what is going on in the country,” he said.
