PESHAWAR – A local leader of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been shot dead in Abbottabad, a city located in the Hazara region of eastern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Local police told media that the former District Nazim of Malakpura and Tehsil member was assassinated outside his residence on Friday.

Later, the cops arrived at the scene and shifted his body to DHQ hospital for the medico-legal procedure.

Imran, a former leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, joined Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf a week ago and was involved in party campaign ahead of polls.

It remains unclear whether it was a targeted attack or personal enmity.

The recent incident comes days after PTI backed candidate was shot dead in the Siddiqabad area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district. Earlier, four people died while six were wounded in a bomb blast at a PTI rally in Balochistan’s Sibi.

PTI decreied that its supporters were the targets of terror attack. The recent incidents followed overnight heavy gun battle between Pakistani armed forces and militants in Balochistan.
