ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast significant rains and snowfall for Murree, Galyat and other tourist sites in Pakistan during the weekend.
As per the synoptic situation, a westerly wave is affecting Balochistan and upper Sindh. It is likely to affect upper parts of Pakistan from tonight.
Under these conditions, rains and snowfall are likely in Murree, Galyat, Gilgit-Batistan, Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.
Snowfall will likely affect transportation in Murree, Galyat, Malam Jabba, Kalam, Chitral, Dir, Hunza, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Garhi Dupatta and Rawlakot during the period. Tourists are advised to remain cautious.
Murree’s minimum temperature is expected to be between -04 to -02 degrees Celsius on Saturday and -02-00 C on Sunday.
Meanwhile, cold and partly cloudy weather prevailed at most tourist destinations in the country during the last 24 hours. However, light rain, snowfall occurred at some places.

Kalam remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 14 C below freezing.
In Murree, the temperature dropped to 3°C below freezing. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 55 per cent.
Tourists thronged Murree, Galyat and other tourist destinations in the country to witness the heavy snowfall. The massive influx of tourists caused a traffic mess in Malika-e-Kohsar and on the roads leading to Galyat and other hill stations.
