Several schools and higher educational institutions remained closed in Islamabad after capital law enforcement reported threat of terror attack by some militant groups.

Amid the holidays in the capital, several reports claimed one-week school and college holidays in Punjab due to security concerns.

School Holidays in Punjab

Several social media sites including X and Instagram saw posts regarding school holidays in Punjab. Sham notifications from private schools and the Interior Ministry were also issued about the closure of educational institutions.

A fake notification was also shared claiming that Punjab School Education Department has announced holidays in the region ahead of elections.

Reality behind the school closure news

As these fake reports made rounds on social sites and WhatsApp groups, Pakistan Observer checked with relevant officials and it came to know that there is no truth about the closure of schools.

Punjab home department, education department, or any other officials did not share any notification regarding holidays.

Schools Holidays during Elections

Some other reports about closure of educational institutions were also shared widely. The unverified reports claimed that schools will remain closed for eights day in February, coinciding with the scheduled elections.

It said schools, colleges and universities will remain shut down from February 4, 2024 and the educational activities will start on Feb 12.

The interim government of Pakistan has yet to notify any holidays as no final decision has been made so far.

Let it be known that false reports about holidays create unease among students and parents.

People are advised to verify any information through legitimate platforms to avoid confusion.
