WASHINGTON – The State Department of the United State on Friday said that the future leadership of Pakistan is for its people to decide while the US is interested in democratic processes.
During a press briefing in Washington, US State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel emphasized the importance of a free media in advancing democracy.
He stated that they understand that a free and independent media is crucial for strong democracy, as it helps voters stay informed and holds the government accountable.
Vedant Patel also expressed concerns about freedom of expression and press restrictions in Pakistan, stating that curbing freedom of speech goes against Pakistan’s own policy.
Regarding the upcoming general elections in Pakistan, he said that the leadership of Pakistan’s future is for the Pakistani people to decide, and America is interested in democratic processes.
Discussing tensions between Pakistan and Iran, Vedant Patel mentioned that Iran is engaging in aggressive actions in the region, and Pakistani officials are in contact with Iranian authorities.
On the other hand, an article in Time magazine claims that after prioritizing relations with Russia and China, Imran Khan’s government had very few friends in the West.
