Pakistani man, daughter die after apartment catches fire in Sharjah

SHARJAH – A Pakistani man and his 11-year-old daughter died of suffocation after an apartment building caught fire in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

The wife of the man has been shifted to a hospital in critical condition. She has been admitted to ICU of the Al Qassimi Hospital, official said.

Two other children – a nine-year-old girl and boy aged five – of the Pakistani couple are now recovering at hospital after they were shifted with symptoms of suffocation.

The apartment is located on the third floor of the building in Muwaileh area, Brigadier Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, director-general of Sharjah Civil Defence told Gulf News.

“The fire broke out in this apartment on the third floor of the building and the smoke spread to the whole building,” he was quoted as saying.

The official said the fire broke out around 2;08am and firefighters reached the site at 2.12am. H said tenants of the three-storey building have been evacuated.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident.
