LAHORE – Young children in Punjab have been hit hard by pneumonia wave as infections rampage.
During the last 24 hours, at least 14 reports have been reported due to pneumonia in Punjab, while KP also witnessed a surge in cases of pulmonary disease as the region is facing an extreme cold wave and worsening air quality.
It has been learnt that most of these children hailed from Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, and Mandi Bahauddin.
In the last seven days, Punjab reported over 86 deaths while around 1000 children are being treated for the disease.
In this winter, pneumonia claimed 208 lives in Punjab. KP saw a surge in pneumonia cases as mercury dipped.
Health experts link a huge surge in pneumonia cases to heightened cold intensity. Urging parental vigilance, physicians advised dressing children warmly and ensuring their indoor protection.
In young ones, Pneumonia is infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs The condition can be caused by various microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
Its symptoms include cough, difficulty breathing, chest pain, and fever. The infection can range from mild to severe, and severe cases may require hospitalization.
It poses a particular risk to vulnerable populations, such as young children and the elderly. Preventive measures often include vaccination, good hygiene practices, and prompt medical attention for respiratory symptoms.
