Fog update for Lahore, Pakistan; day temperatures drop below normal levels

LAHORE – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast mainly cold and foggy weather for Lahore and plains of Pakistan during the next two days.
As per the synoptic situation, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and foggy weather is expected in Lahore and plains of Pakistan on Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday.
Freezing weather is expected in northern areas of the country and north Balochistan.
Lahore’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 04-06 degrees Celsius on Thursday and Friday.

Fog update for Pakistan

Dense fog/smog will likely prevail in Islamabad, Potohar region, and the plains of Punjab (Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, Kasur, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Mangla, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal, Multan, Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Hafizabad, Bhakkar, Layyah and Dera Ghazi Khan), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.
Meanwhile, dense fog/smog and cold waves persisted in Lahore and plains of Pakistan during the last 24 hours.
Less sunshine in fog affected areas decreased daytime temperatures by 05-07 C below normal levels.
Freezing weather prevailed in northern areas of Pakistan and north Balochistan.
Leh remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 12 C below freezing.
Lahore’s minimum temperature was recorded at 04 C.
Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 100 per cent.
Dense fog/smog prevailed in Islamabad, Potohar region, and plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.

Fog update for Motorways

Dense fog/smog forced the closure of Motorways (Peshawar-Swabi, Swabi-Islamabad, Islamabad-Kallar Kahar, Kallar Kahar-Pindi Bhattian, Pindi Bhattian-Lahore, Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad, Lahore-Abdul Hakim, Sialkot-Lahore, Faisalabad-Multan, Multan-Sukkur and Mianwali-Dera Ismail Khan).
Less visibility also disrupted traffic on the National Highway and other inter and intra-city roads besides affecting flight operations and the schedule of passenger trains.
