Lahore College for Women University holds 19th convocation

Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman/Chancellor presided over the 19th Convocation of Lahore College for Women University.

Speaking on this occasion, Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman said that our religion has laid great emphasis on education. The first word revealed to our last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) from Allah Almighty was Iqra, which means to read, to seek knowledge. Governor Punjab urged the students to develop a penchant for seeking knowledge . Governor Punjab said that education provides opportunities to get a job, but the real success is one’s character that guarantees success in life and hereafter. He said that the students should develop qualities like truthfulness, honesty, and tolerance in their character. Governor Punjab said that there are many positive things in our and we should look at the positive aspects of society . He emphasized that the students should inculcate the habit of gratitude in themselves, adding that they should be thankful to their parents and teachers for their vital role in their success. He further said that social media was rife with unauthenticated content. He stressed that one should not forward the content on social media without research. Governor Punjab said that the main purpose of universities is research that gives a prospective to see things in life. He said that it is very important to respect other’s opinions and develop tolerance for dissenting viewpoints. He emphasized that the main purpose of education is to develop tolerance and humility in a person. He said that between 2013 and 2018, the number of out-of-school children had gradually decreased, but after 2018, the number of out-of-school children had increased alarmingly, which is an issue that needs attention. He also appreciated the Student Service Center, Incubation Center, Student Exchange Program, sports facilities, and other initiatives in the university. Earlier, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Shafuta Naz presented the annual performance report of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) and congratulated the parents and students. As many as 4,744 degrees were conferred during the two sessions at the inaugural session of convocation. It included 77 Ph.D., 818 MS/MPhil, and 2220 different undergraduate programs such as BS, BBA, B.Com, BEB.Architecture, BS Computer Science., BFA, and Doctor of Pharmacy. Affiliated colleges of Lahore College for Women, Government Graduate College for Women Sumanabad 665 students, Government Islamia Graduate College for Women Cooper Road 540 students and Government Graduate College for Women Gulberg 424 students were among the recipients of degrees. A total of 898 students were awarded medals and roll of honours. One student received the Vice Chancellor Gold Medal, three students received special gold medals, 66 students were awarded academic gold medals and 64 students were awarded silver medals, while 14 students were awarded roll of honors in co-curricular activities.
