ISLAMABAD – In response to a credible terrorist threat, the multiple educational institutions in the federal capital, Islamabad, were temporarily shut down, the sources said on Monday.

The measures were taken to mitigate potential risks.

The decision to suspend educational activities aimed to avert any potential disaster amid concerns of an impending security threat.

The sources revealed that a banned organization had allegedly devised plans for multiple ‘terror attacks’ on educational facilities, with a specific focus on schools and universities in Islamabad.

The sources further said that these potential attacks could involve female suicide bombers affiliated with the banned organizations, with the timeframe set between January 22 and 24.

While the relevant authorities assured the public of robust security measures in place across the capital, cautionary advice has been issued, particularly regarding election rallies and public gatherings.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had previously issued a nationwide security high alert due to a potential terror threat, leading to intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted in Punjab.
