Provincial Minister of Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz said the work is being carried out for formulating a model charter for public sector universities.
He was chairing a meeting of syndicate of Okara University held in the committee room of Civil Secretariat’s New Minister Block. He further maintained that after the approval of the model charter, the hurdles in appointing important posts like treasurer, registrar and controller will be resolved.
Significant change can be seen by appointing vice chancellors of universities and chairmen of educational boards on merit. Now VC can take free decisions without the political interference for the betterment the university. He said that first time a large number of students are being given undergraduate scholarship under Ehsas Programme.
Besides initiating projects of pomp and show, the government is taking such measures which would help provide quality education to the children of common man. Under Ehsas Programme, all the schemes are being taken ahead on merit and with transparency which will help to bring best talent of Pakistan into limelight.
Syndicate gave approval to the university to set up new academic block. Suggestions are being sought from HEC regarding shifting of teachers of law department of University from TTS to basic pay scale. The Minister further directed the department to chalk out uniform format of the transcript and degrees of the university. The meeting also gave approval for the working rules of the university besides approval of selection committee for the treatment of employees up to 16 scale.
The meeting further directed the University of Education to take advice from planning and finance departments about the issues of promotion track of recently appointed employees in Okara University.
