The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the blocking of the computerised national identity cards of the Sindh Building Control Authority’s director and deputy director over their failure to comply with a court order in an unauthorized construction case. The direction came during a hearing of a petition against an unauthorized construction in the Nazimabad area, District Central. The court took exception to non-compliance with court directives by the SBCA’s director and deputy director central, who had been directed to take action against the multi-storey building. The court observed that it has been established that the building was under construction during the pendency of the petition; however, the ground plus-four building was allowed to be completed and the allottees were allowed to move into the building.

The court directed the utility providing companies to disconnect the utility services to the building and directed the SBCA to take action against the unauthorized construction. The SBCA counsel submitted that the residents of the building were issued with notices to vacate the premises and undertook that compliance with the court order would be ensured before next date of the hearing.

The court directed the police and law enforcement agencies to provide assistance to the SBCA for compliance of the court order. It also took notice of non-compliance with the court order and ordered the National Database Registration Authority to block the CNICs of director and deputy director of the SBCA till February 7.
