A startling revelation of irregularities has emerged in the allocation of election symbols for candidates gearing up for the upcoming general elections in the country. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate from PP 163, Muhammad Faiz Bhatti, has been assigned a ‘check mark’ symbol instead of the expected ‘arrow,’ prompting PPP leadership to raise concerns and demand an inquiry, says in media reports.

Senator Taj Haider, in charge of the Central Election Cell of the Pakistan People’s Party, expressed deep concern over the perceived irregularity and formally communicated the issue to the Chief Election Commissioner through a letter.

According to details provided by PPP, Muhammad Faiz Bhatti submitted his PPPP ticket to the concerned Returning Officer in January 2024. However, in a surprising turn of events, he was listed as an independent candidate and allocated the symbol of a “kettle” instead of the PPPP’s designated “arrow” symbol. This unexpected change has raised serious doubts about the integrity of the electoral process.

Senator Taj Haider voiced his apprehensions, stating, “We fear this may be a deliberate attempt to weaken the PPP candidate and compromise the transparency of the upcoming elections.”
