In a fervent address at a workers’ convention in Lahore, Bilawal Bhutto, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), emphasized the historical association of Lahore with the Bhutto legacy, saying that Lahore did not belong to any business magnate or athlete.
Bilawal Bhutto expressed his delight at being in Lahore and contesting elections from the city he said gave birth to his party.
He was addressing the party’s workers convention in NA-127 on Sunday.
The PPP Chairman distanced his party from feudal influences, saying that they are committed to the people. He traced Lahore’s political dynamics back to the era of General Zia and criticized the dominance of PPP opponents in the city’s politics.
Bilawal Bhutto highlighted the ongoing struggle against economic challenges, including inflation, unemployment, and poverty. He pledged to construct major hospitals in Lahore to eliminate the need for medical treatment abroad and ensure property rights for slum dwellers.
Addressing divisive politics, Bilawal promised to put an end to it, outlining plans for free medical facilities in every district of Punjab, prioritizing housing, and providing up to 300 units of free electricity while doubling salaries.
The former Foreign Minister committed to issue cards for laborers and farmers, expanding the Benazir Income Support Program, and constructing 30 lakh houses for those in need. He emphasized the eradication of hunger in challenging economic conditions.
Bilawal Bhutto declared the PPP as the sole alternative to divisive politics, calling for unity among workers to reshape Lahore and Pakistan’s destiny. He questioned the recurring appointment of the same individual as Prime Minister, advocating for a change in leadership.
In a subsequent meeting, Bilawal urged collective efforts to transform Lahore and Pakistan, encouraging workers to become PPP ambassadors. He promised an end to poverty and increased employment opportunities under a PPP government.
