Former finance minister Miftah Ismail was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau on Wednesday after the Islamabad High Court rejected his plea for bail extension in the LNG terminal case.
The Pakistan Muslim League-N leader was on pre-arrest bail which ended Wednesday and he approached the IHC for an extension.
The court, however, rejected applications for extension filed by Ismail and former Pakistan State Oil managing director Sheikh Imranul Haq.
Both men were then taken into custody by NAB officials. On July 18, NAB had arrested former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for his alleged involvement in the LNG case.In 2018, the anti-corruption watchdog had initiated an inquiry against former premiers Abbasi and Nawaz Sharif over alleged misuse of authority.
