LAHORE – Blanketed by fog, Lahore and plains of Punjab remained in the grip of cold wave on Tuesday with experts predicting the prevailing weather conditions to persist during the next two days.
Lahore hardly saw any sunshine as fog started falling again in the evening before lifting of the existing mass.
Biting cold and incessant fog disturbed routine life by disrupting road, rail and air traffic.
Fog forced closure of portions of Motorways besides affecting normal vehicular movement on other inter and intra city roads including National Highway.
Harsh weather conditions also affected flight operation at Allama Iqbal International Airport and schedule of passenger trains.
Murree remained the coldest place in the province where mercury dropped to 01 degrees Celsius.
Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 35 per cent.
Minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded at 07 C.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of the country.
A shallow westerly wave prevails over western Balochistan.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in Lahore and most districts of Punjab on Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday.
Partly cloudy and extremely cold weather is likely in Murree, Galliyat and surrounding areas.
In Lahore, the minimum temperature will likely remain between 06-08 C on Wednesday and 07-09 C on Thursday.

Dense fog/smog is likely to persist in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, Kasur, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Mangla, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal, Multan, Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Hafizabad, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan and surroundings during morning and night hours.
Dense fog/smog may force the closure of Motorways besides disturbing normal vehicular movement on the National Highway and other inter and intra city roads.
