ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will start scrutiny of documents from Monday as the second deadline for filing nomination papers for contesting the February 8 general elections ended on Sunday.
Earlier, the ECP set a deadline of December 22 for filing the nomination papers. The date was extended to facilitate the political parties and aspiring candidates.
The ECP will complete the process of scrutiny of nomination papers by December 30.
Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be submitted until January 3 and decisions on these appeals will be made by January 10.
The list of candidates will be displayed on January 11, and nomination papers can be withdrawn until January 12.
The electoral symbols will be allotted on January 13.
Foreign observers desiring to monitor the February 8 general polls can submit applications from December 31 to January 20.
Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari filed nomination papers for contesting elections from NA-194 (Larkana) earlier today.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and Senior Vice-President Maryam Nawaz also filed nomination papers from different constituencies.
Ex-MNA Bilal Yasin submitted the nomination papers on behalf of Nawaz Sharif from NA-130.
Maryam Nawaz submitted papers from the NA-119 and NA-120 constituencies. She also submitted nomination papers from four provincial constituencies-PP-159, PP-160, PP-165 and PP-80.
