The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) condemned the police raid on the residence of the Chief Editor of Daily Ausaf and Chairman, ABN Group, Raja Mehtab Khan and terms it as an attack on the freedom of press.

Sarmad Ali, Secretary General, All Pakistan Newspapers Society, has stated that in the wee hours of December 20, 2023, a contingent of police intruded the residence of Raja Mehtab Khan, tortured and maltreated the guard and broke the central gate of the residence. They harassed and abused the residents without assigning any reason. The APNS considers this raid as an attempt to harass and threaten the media at the eve of the general elections scheduled in the month of February.

The Secretary General, APNS has noted that despite application by the media group to the SSP Islamabad, no action has been taken. He requested the Islamabad administration and Inspector General Police to immediately investigate in the matter and take action against the Police party and ensure that no such acts would be repeated against other media outlets.—PR
