Pakistan’s jailed ex-PM Imran Khan to contest elections on multiple seats despite legal woes

ISLAMABAD – Former prime minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf Imran Khan remained in jail for about four months, but the incarcerated leader has decided to contest polls on multiple seats.

PTI’s newly appointed Chairman Gohar Khan said Imran Khan will contest upcoming general elections from three constituencies.

In media talk outside Adiala Jail on Wednesday, Gohar Khan, and Barrister Ali Zafar said PTI Imran Khan wanted polls to be held on February 8 but called for a level playing field for all political parties. PTI chairman would contest elections from Lahore, Mianwali, and Islamabad.

PTI lawyers expressed that Vice Chairman Qureshi’s nomination papers were snatched from his secretary. He condemned the snatching of nomination papers shameful incident.

Gohar further added that Imran Khan would be provided with his nomination papers on Thursday, confirming that the former PM will contest upcoming elections, InshAllah.

He further mentioned that Imran Khan directed all party workers to file nomination papers. Gohar was of the view that Imran still holds power allot party tickets would still be taken by Khan.

Barrister Gohar said he would participate in upcoming elections from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Buner.

PTI leader Zafar said the Islamabad High Court was set to release its verdict on Imran’s petition challenging conviction in the Toshakhana case.

The judgment will soon be announced because the election schedule has been released. The lawyer said all PTI workers had been given directions to file their nomination papers as the country had entered into the election mode.

He further cited that PTI leaders are concerned, as our workers in jail, who rendered expenses for the party in hard time, would be allotted tickets on a priority basis.
