The Election Commission of Pakistan on Wednesday imposed a ban on the transfer and posting of Deputy Commissioners and Additional Deputy Commissioners across the country. The decision was taken in view of the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024, and the appointment of District Returning Officers, Returning Officers, and Assistant Returning Officers for the polls.
The ECP has assigned crucial responsibilities to DCs and ADCs in the election process, and their transfer or posting could disrupt the ongoing preparations. To ensure smooth and transparent elections, the Commission has issued a letter to the Secretary Establishment and the four Chief Secretaries directing them to refrain from transferring or posting any DC or ADC until further notice. Earlier, the ECP appointed DROs, ROs, and AROs for 859 National and Provincial Assembly constituencies.
