ISLAMABAD – The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) is likely to reduce the price of sugar for general consumers by Rs10 to Rs15 per kilogram.
As per the media reports, reduction in price will not be applicable for Benazir Income Support Program consumers who are already getting the commodity at a subsidized rate of Rs109 per kg.
The current price of sugar for general consumers is Rs155 per kg.
The USC has secured purchase of sugar at Rs124.90 per kg, Rs10.37 per kg cheaper as compared to the previous bid.
The USC is evaluating the option of passing on the benefits of purchase of cheaper sugar to the general consumers. However, the final decision in this regard will be taken in the upcoming board meeting.
