In a recent informal conversation with journalists, Rana Zaman Saeed, the leader of the Pakistan Jamhoori League (PJL), expressed grave concerns about the upcoming general elections in Pakistan. Saeed claimed that a rigging program has been orchestrated under the guise of these elections, pointing to what he perceives as a double standard of justice prevailing in the country.
Highlighting his discontent, Saeed noted that individuals who were considered fugitives and criminals by the courts just yesterday are now receiving honorable discharges. He emphasized that offering official protocol to such individuals sends the wrong message and undermines the pursuit of justice. According to Saeed, nations cannot progress if corrupt individuals are not held ruthlessly accountable.
Saeed urged various institutions, including the judiciary, supervisory government bodies, and the election commission, to play an active role in ensuring fair and transparent elections. He expressed skepticism about the electoral process, suggesting that instead of true elections, the nation is headed towards a predetermined selection, paving the way for a single party’s dominance.
The PJL leader criticized the trend of acquitting those who escaped prison, indicating a shift in the stance of the courts and institutions.
In a bold statement, Saeed questioned the wisdom of spending billions on election dramas if the government system is to be handed over to individuals who, according to him, have looted the country for 35 years. He argued that without rooting out corruption, the prospect of providing the poor with decent livelihoods remains elusive.
