A 22-year-old groom was shot dead on Charsadda Road in Peshawar on Sunday. The groom, Adnan Umarzada, was taking his bride home after their wedding ceremony when he was suddenly fired upon. The bride miraculously survived the attack.
According to police, Umarzada was shot by unidentified assailants who fled the scene on a motorcycle. He was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
ASP Faqirabad Syed Talal Ahmed Shah said that a formal case will be registered on the report of the deceased’s relatives, and that a comprehensive investigation has been launched to trace the accused involved in the incident. The motive for the attack is still unknown, but police are investigating all possibilities, including sectarian violence and targeted killing.
The killing of Umarzada has shocked and saddened the people of Peshawar. Many have condemned the attack and called on the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.—INP
