In a response to the prevailing smog conditions, the Lahore police on Friday initiated a targeted crackdown in a bid to enforce Section 144 and implement a mini-lockdown in the city. The enforcement operation was concentrated in Abid Market, Lahore, where police authorities, in adherence to Section 144, carried out the closure of open shops.
A shopkeeper also faced arrest for resisting compliance with the enforcement measures during the operation. The proactive measures come as a response to the severe smog conditions, prompting the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Ali Nasir Rizvi to issue stringent orders for the implementation of a smart lockdown.
However, in a subsequent development, IG Operations Lahore, Ali Nasir Rizvi, intervened upon receiving reports of forceful closures of markets by the police.
