The collaboration between Sindh government and World Bank, under the Karachi Water Sewerage Services improvement project, the raising main number five of the Dhabeji pumping station being converted into SOP-I, with the tendering process underway, Additionally, the project includes the conversion of raising main number one and raising main number two of the Dhabeji Pumping Station into SOP-II, spokesperson said.

Spokesperson of Water Corporation explained the upgradation of the Hub Canal, said that the repair work of the upgradation of the Hub Canal cannot be taken up in the World Bank, because the World Bank invests according to their procedures and guidelines, which are applicable only in new projectsUpgradation of the Hub Canal is being done by the Sindh Government under Public Private Partnership and in this regard, the International Financial Commission FIC, a subsidiary of the World Bank, has completed the survey work of the Hub Canal Upgradation and the Request for Proposal RFP has also been launched, while seven different international and national companies have achieved success in this process, spokesperson added.

He said that in the upgradation of the Hub Canal, a new pumping station, filter plant, reservoir will be built along with the rehabilitation of the canal and two new Rising Main will also be added, so that water can be supplied to the city from the hub canal under the required quota.

In response to a news published in Pakistan Observer on Monday, October 2, 2023, regarding a power breakdown at the Dhabeji pumping station, disrupting water supply to various city areas, K-Electric spokesperson has said that a technical fault occurred at the Dhabeji pumping station, which caused temporary suspension of the power supply.

However, the power utility after rectifying the fault has restored the power supply to the pumping station K-Electric(.KE) spokesperson also said that all the heavy pumping stations of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, including the Dhabeji pumping station, were exempted from loadshedding, while in case of emergency.

The pumping stations were provided power supply from alternative sources.
