The implementation of the national plan at a cost of Rs 12 billion was underway to increase per-acre wheat production in order to ensure food security in the province. The agriculture department has sought applications from the farmers for the cultivation of demonstration plots in irrigated and rainfed areas under the ongoing project, said a spokesperson for the Punjab Agriculture Department.
The male and female farmers who own 5 to 12.5 acres of cultivable land in irrigated areas and 5 to 25 acres in rainfed areas will be eligible to apply as Rs 20000 will be provided by the Punjab government for one acre demonstration plot. The Successful farmers in the balloting draw will be bound to cultivate the exhibition plots as per the recommendations of the Agriculture department.
The willing farmers could get the application forms free of charge from the offices of the concerned Agriculture Officer (Extension) and Assistant Director of Agriculture (Extension) these forms could also be downloaded from www.agripunjab.gov.pk.
Completed applications will be received in the office of the concerned Assistant Director of Agriculture (Extension) by October 20, 2023 and a balloting draw will be held in the office of the concerned Director of Agriculture (Extension) on October 27, 2023. The spokesman further said that the average production of wheat in the province was expected to increase by 10 maunds per acre with the completion of the project.
