CM chairs cabinet meeting, reviews inquiry report on Jaranwala incident

Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi presided over an emergency meeting of the Punjab cabinet at his office on 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal. The inquiry report of Jaranwala tragedy was presented in the meeting, said a handout issued here on Saturday.

The cabinet withdrew its decision to constitute a JIT (Joint Investigation Team) after submission of the inquiry report on the Jaranwala incident. The meeting also granted approval to establish more tehsils in Punjab. With the establishment of new tehsils, the total number of tehsils in Lahore will reach nine. A special committee was constituted during the meeting to chalk out division of Lahore for administrative purposes. Provincial ministers, advisers, chief secretary and officials concerned attended the meeting.

Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (R) Maqbool Baqar constituted a three-member “Inquiry Committee” headed by Commissioner Hyderabad to Inquire into the incident that took place in Sakrand Taulka of Shaheed Benazirabad district on September 28.

According to a notification issued here by Additional Chief Secretary Muhammad Iqbal Memon, on the orders of the Interim Chief Minister, a committee headed by Commissioner Hyderabad with DIG Police Shaheed Benazirabad and DIG Special Branch Karachi as its members to inquire into the incident took place in Sakrand Taluka of SBA district.

The committee will inquire into the subject matter to determine the reasons for the clash resulting in the loss of precious lives and injuries to law enforcement personnel, the notification stated. The committee was directed to furnish its findings to the caretaker chief minister through the Home Department Sindh within 4 days. Moreover, Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Friday the Punjab government was making efforts to complete all ongoing development projects on time, and for the purpose all contractors and developers had been directed to carry on work in day and night shifts. Talking to the media after inspecting the construction site of Nawaz Sharif interchange project here, he said the project had great importance as it would provide improved transportation facilities for the public and curb traffic congestion.

The construction of the Bedian Road underpass at the Nawaz Sharif interchange is expected to benefit approximately 120,000 vehicles daily.

He was of the view that the project would be completed within the stipulated time period, if there was no rain.
