Ensuring the rights of deserving individuals is the government’s top priority because serving suffering humanity is a significant form of worship.
This was stated by chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), Dr. Amjad Saqib, while talking to APP at the Dynamic Registration Centre in Gulshan-e-Ravi on Saturday. He mentioned that his visit to the Dynamic Registration Centre had made him aware of women’s issues.
These issues constitute an important responsibility of our national existence. “Taking care of these women, who are the heart of their families, is essential,” he said. He emphasised the need to increase the number of registered women in the Benazir Income Support Program to ensure that no deserving woman is left behind. Dr. Amjad Saqib noted that many people in our society are living in dire conditions.
“They eat one day and have nothing for the next day. Providing assistance to these deserving individuals can significantly improve their lives,” he said. Dr. Amjad also highlighted that when the funds from the BISP become part of the income of the poor, many of their financial issues are resolved.
He instructed the staff to treat the women who have come for assistance with kindness and respect, as this is a significant responsibility for all of them, and by helping them, they can earn their prayers. He added that any discrepancies in cash transfers should be rectified so that these people can manage their financial matters promptly. If rich people take responsibility for the welfare of the 9.3 million deserving individuals, poverty in the country can significantly decrease, he added. Earlier, the BISP chairperson was briefed by Director-General Nadim Alam Butt about the ongoing programs under the Benazir Income Support Programme, including Benazir Kafalat, Benazir Talimi scholarships, and Benazir Nashonuma Programme.
These programs are benefiting 9.3 million people nationwide, including 340 transgenders in Punjab. He also mentioned that in Punjab, 4.14 million deserving women have been given three-month stipend, with Rs 9,000 disbursed every three months to each deserving woman. In Punjab, there are 157 Dynamic Registration Centers operational, he said. Dr. Amjad Saqib was also informed that the children of deserving women are provided with separate educational grants. Primary school boys receive Rs 1,500, while girls receive Rs 2,000 each every three months. Secondary school boys receive Rs 2,500, and girls receive Rs 3,000 each every three months. Similarly, higher secondary school boys receive Rs 3,500, and girls receive Rs 4,000 each every three months. He mentioned that 6.8 million children in Punjab are registered under educational programs, including 3.5 million boys and 3.3 million girls. Regarding the Nashonuma program, he stated that this program is operational in 26 districts with 72 centers.
