In response to a surge in Pink eye infections in Punjab, both government and private schools in the province would remain closed till Monday.

Punjab caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi announced to shut down schools on Thursday.

To contain the spread of the eye infection, teachers were instructed to conduct student health checks at the school’s main entrance starting from Monday.

The number of Pink eye cases in Punjab, as well as other parts of the country, had been on the rise. Within the past 24 hours, the Punjab Health Department reported 85 new cases of conjunctivitis, commonly known as Pink eye.

The patients were advised to use prescribed eye drops and tissues for eye cleansing, and they had the option of using cold water for temporary relief. The provincial government’s health department emphasized the importance of using hand sanitizers and had warned against touching one’s eyes without thorough handwashing.

In an effort to prevent the spread of eye infections, the health department recommended refraining from sharing personal items with infected individuals, such as pillows, clothing, medicine, and bedding, which should be kept separate. Besides it, the patients were urged not to reuse facial items.

The provincial health authorities said that the samples of the injections that caused infection among the sugar patients were sent to the laboratory and final reports could take around two weeks’ time.
