COVID-19 (Corona virus) is neither the first nor the last one that has posed a challenge to humanity. This genie when gets out of the bottle can cause infliction everywhere, either close or distant. It is the collective will and response that is required to effectively deal with such kind of situation and save lives of people.
Addressing a joint news conference along with his German counterpart, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi very rightly pointed out that viruses have no boundaries and the world community should work together to fight COVID-19. Indeed such kind of serious situation can develop in any country and region and instead of creating panic and resorting to blame game, it is important that all the countries act with more maturity, understanding and support each other to effectively deal and steer out of this difficult time. Chinese people and leadership deserve appreciation for taking comprehensive measures to contain the virus. Completely locking down Wuhan, where the virus was first detected, are amongst the important measures that Chinese leadership took for the sake of everybody and this needs to be recognised. It is because of the quick and effective response that the virus has not yet moved in significant numbers outside of China. As of February 14, there were over 60,000 confirmed cases in China and fewer than 500 cases in 24 other countries.. Then except for Hubei Province, the total number of new confirmed cases of infection in other parts of China has also been dropping for 10 consecutive days, with the recovery rate continuing to rise and over 6,000 cured patients being discharged from hospital after recovery. This on the one hand shows efficiency of Chinese healthcare system while on the other hand it demonstrates that the epidemic is, on the whole controllable and treatable. Given the resilience shown by Chinese people, we are confident that it will also overcome this challenge very soon. It is also for other countries to fully support China at this critical hour and join hands to actively mitigate not only COVID-19 adverse impacts but also safeguard the world against other epidemics.
