KP Caretaker Minister for Energy & Power and Mines & Mineral Development, Engineer Ahmad Jan on Monday said that Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) is working rapidly for the development of the energy sector, which will prove a catalyst for the economic stability of the province in future and resolve the current energy crisis.
He expressed these views while addressing the introductory meeting at PEDO office in Peshawar on Wednesday.
While giving a briefing to the minister the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), PEDO Engineer Naeem Khan said that his organization is accelerating work for the production of cheap hydropower energy.
He added that so far more than 47 billion rupees of income has been made from the electricity and efforts are being made to increase this income further to stabilize the economy of the province and the country.
He said that seven major hydropower projects with a total capacity of 162 MW have been completed under PEDO, which is earning billions of rupees annually for the province. Similarly, five more projects of 216 MW electricity generating capacity are in the final stages of completion. These projects included by 84MW Gorkan Matiltan Hydropower Project, 69MW Lavi, 40MW Koto, 11MW Karora, 10 MW Jabori Hydropower Project.
He went on to say that beside these projects, progress is also underway on the 13.5 MW Chaparichar Khel and 6.9 MW Mujahdin Hydropower projects.
The CEO of PEDO said that the company with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has also started work on 300 MW Balakot Hydropower Project, while practical work is also underway on the 88 MW Gabral Kalam and 157 MW Madin Hydropower projects with the financial support of the World Bank.—APP
