Renowned dramatist, story writer, and literary figure Abdul Qadir Junejo was remembered on his birth anniversary on Wednesday.Junejo was born on September 13, 1945, in Tharparkar, Sindh. He was a prolific writer who wrote several Sindhi and Urdu soaps, dramas, stories, and many literary books.

His notable works were published in English, Urdu, and Sindhi languages.He gained popularity through his works such as Parenda, Dewareen, Choti Si Dunya, and Dhool. He also wrote six Sindhi and 13 Urdu drama serials.Junejo served as the director of the Institute of Sindhology at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, and as the chairperson of the Sindhi Language Authority at the provincial government’s Culture Tourism and Antiquities Department from 2005 to 2008.

The government of Pakistan awarded him the Pride of Performance in 2008, while the Sindh government honoured him with the Latif Award in 2016.He died on March 30, 2020, in Jamshoro due to liver disease.Junejo’s contributions to Sindhi and Urdu literature are immense. He was a master story writer and playwright who entertained and educated generations of Pakistanis.

His works will continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.Several people paid tribute to Junejo on his birth anniversary. They remembered him as a great writer and a talented artist who left a lasting legacy.
