The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will hold a meeting later this month to review the implementation of its last year’s resolution regarding flood devastation in Pakistan.

In a statement, the spokesperson for the president of 78th session of the 193-member assembly, Monica Grayley said the meeting is aimed at calling on the world community to increase aid and keep up the political will to support Pakistan’s long-term recovery efforts.

The Spokesperson said that the meeting will take place on in the Trusteeship Council Chamber on September 27.

The Assembly’s Oct 7, 2022, resolution also urged the U.N. to step up efforts to “sensitize the international community” to Pakistan’s needs and “mobilize effective, immediate and adequate international support and assistance.”

UN officials are expected to update the Assembly on the actions taken on the goal set by the resolution, entitled: ‘Solidarity with and support for the Government and people of Pakistan and strengthening of emergency relief, rehabilitation, reconstruction and prevention in the wake of the recent devastating flood.”—Agencies
