The President of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, taking a dig at the Jammu and Kashmir authorities over the police threatening the BBC for publishing a story, said that truth had become a casualty in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.

Mehbooba Mufti was reacting to the police warning of legal action against the BBC for an article titled “Any story could be your last: India’s crackdown on Kashmir Press” on the state of journalism in the territory.

In a post on X, Mehbooba said, “Since 2019, truth has not only become a casualty in Jammu and Kashmir but stating facts now warrants punishment.” She further said, “This BBC article only illuminated an inconvenient truth, which is also a problem for intolerant agencies, including the New Delhi-controlled State Investigation Agency.”—KMS
