The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Health Department has decided to nominate 23 doctors, nurses, and paramedics’ staff from across the province for the award of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz. The nominations will include medical staff who lost their lives while rendering services during the COVID-19 pandemic in the province. An official of the health department said that the Federal government has sought details of the martyrs for the civil award besides payment of the martyrs’ package.

The Tamgha-e-Imtiaz is a Pakistani civil award that is given for distinguished service in the fields of literature, arts, sports, medicine, engineering, education, public service, and others. The award was established in 1957 and is the third-highest civilian award in Pakistan.

The awardees will be formally announced by the President of Pakistan at a later date. The decision to nominate the medical staff for the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz is a recognition of their sacrifices and dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic.
